I have just read ‘Large-scale Open Source E-Learning Systems at The Open University UK’ by Sclater (2008). This year I am going to be involved in developing a VLE (virtual learning environment) at a new sixth form college. I was pleased to hear they chose Moodle and after reading this paper I am even happier

Last week we started a GCSE maths course with Year 9, so I took the opportunity to experiment! Based on a suggestion in Moodle Docs for Moodle’s Glossary module I thought we’d have a go at a collaborative glossary. I found a fairly extensive list of key words for maths and gave each student a

As part of my Open University H800 course I’ve just read Do Smart Devices Make Smart Learners? and feel like I’m missing the point. To me it was more like a hardware review you’d find in a PC magazine than an article about learning. Perhaps the title is misleading? Or perhaps it’s just me (in

Block 3 of my Technology-enhanced learning course at the OU started last week, so I’m determined to use blogging as a way of recording and reflecting on my studies. And hopefully it’ll provide extra motivation to keep on top of things. I

Whilst reading this article from the Times Higher Education website, I came across the following: “Web 2.0 has become a warm and dark space for people with too much time and too few ideas. They are shielded through the flawed assumption that if more “people” (and as a visitor to Second Life, I use this

A piece of software I use to store all my passwords, and more importantly, create passwords of high strength is KeePass. I only have to remember one password to open up KeePass and it does everything else. It’s very portable too – I use the zip package so I can carry it around with me
